A promenade from street to house

In a residential neighborhood of Buenos Aires, this apartment building project aims to incorporate into its units various spaces, pathways, situations, and details typical of single-family home architecture.
The project is located on a unique lot within the otherwise mostly regular urban grid of Buenos Aires: directly across from the site, Delgado Street ends at Jorge Newbery Street. This creates the opportunity for the front-facing spaces to take advantage of the long, open perspective and bring the street’s landscape into the interior.

The project takes advantage of this particular condition by creating intermediate spaces between interior and exterior—balconies, semi-covered terraces, and open terraces—from which to enjoy the view. These spaces develop the idea of outdoor living and connection with greenery in a neighborhood like Colegiales. They serve both as an extension of the interior functions and as a buffer between the intimacy of the domestic space and urban life. The larger units are conceived as houses in the sky. The shared circulation areas—open staircases and semi-covered walkways—reinforce this notion of individual homes, as the building is accessed from the outside, and one only enters an interior space upon entering each unit.

The façade facing the street explores the theme of filters between public and private realms. Vertical aluminum sunshades, which rotate in segments, address issues of security, privacy, and sunlight control. The rotation of different segments throughout the day introduces a sense of dynamism and a domestic scale to the façade.
